- BOBBIE CORINE PENDLETON


Graveside services for Mrs. Bobbie Corine Pendleton, 89, of Mexia, Texas, were held on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Mexia Cemetery. Rev. Brad Brittain, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiated.

Mrs. Pendleton was born on October 22, 1917, in Durant, Oklahoma to Robert W. and Susan Keith Scott and passed away at Parkview Regional Hospital on May 14, 2007. She had lived in Mexia since 1937, was a homemaker and worked at Mexia State School as head of the clothing department for 20 years.

She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church and teacher of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the LaBelle Maison Interior Decorating Club, active in Girl Scouts and a worker in the PTA. She was a wonderful wife and mother and always had a positive attitude.

Mrs. Pendleton was preceded in death by her husband Hugh H. Pendleton in 1986, her parents, her brother and four sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Ann Pendleton of Mexia and her two sisters Betty Sue Stephens of Clayton, Oklahoma and Aline Conn of Jackson, Mississippi, numerous nieces and nephews.

TESSIE JOSEPHINE PHILPOTT


Mrs. Tessie Josephine Philpott of Teague, Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, Texas. She was 67 years old.

Mrs. Philpott was born on November 10, 1939, in Mexia, Texas. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician and at the Texas Department of Corrections, Boyd Unit, in Teague, Texas.

Mrs. Philpott was a member of First Baptist Church South Teague, President of the Church Usher Board, member of the Senior Mission Society and Sunday school member.

Funeral services for Mrs. Philpott were held on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Teague.

Rev. C.J. Wiley, Pastor of First Baptist South Teague and Rev. Anthony Thibodeaux, Pastor of Fairfield Baptist Church officiated. Interment followed at Salem Cemetery in Teague.

Mrs. Philpott is survived by her husband Claude Philpott of Teague, her son Alan Philpott and wife Coleen of San Diego, California, her daughter Patricia Lawrence of Teague, her sister Bobbie Sandles and husband Walter of Oakland, California, her grandchildren Royce and Ryan Lawrence of Teague and Alexis and Adrianna Philpott of San Diego, California.

Moore's Angelic Funeral Home of Teague was in charge of the arrangements.


ELLEN WILLIAMS RUDASILL


Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Williams Rudasill, 97, of Mexia, Texas, were held on Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia, Texas.

Mr. Robin Wright, pastor of Northcrest Church of Christ officiated with interment following at Prairie Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Rudasill was born on February 5, 1910, in LaSalle to Robert and Lela Elizabeth Ferguson Williams and passed away on May 16, 2007, at Manor Healthcare Center in Mexia, Texas.

Mrs. Rudasill was retired from Mexia State School after 20 years and was a member of the Northcrest Church of Christ in Mexia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Holton Rudasill, her daughter Nelda Raye Rudasill Hall and her son Connie Mack Rudasill.

Mrs. Rudasill is survived by her son Billy L. Rudasill of Mexia, her grandchildren Ricky Vickrey, Norman Hall, Mike Hall, David Hall, Steve Hall, Ray Lynn Hall, Leah Rudasill, John Rudasill, Niki Barney and 23 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Rudasill were Rick Vickrey, Mike Hall, Steven Hall, Norman Hall, Jay Barney and Jason Vickrey.

MARY ROBERTS


Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Mary Roberts, 96, of Deanville, formerly of Groesbeck, were held on Monday, May 21, 2007, at Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery. Bro. Michael Vestal officiated.

Mrs. Roberts was born on May 17, 1911, in Centerville, Texas to Charles Jackson Duke and Sarah Alice Scroggins Duke and passed away on May 19, 2007, at her residence in Deanville. She had lived for several years near her daughters in Caldwell, Texas.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.

Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvis Allen Roberts in April of 1956, her sons James Albert (Pete), Charles Arnold (Hike), and Cecil Danver (Hoke), and her grandchildren Terry Lynn and Danny Ray, two sisters and 7 brothers.

She is survived by her daughters Jimmie Blackmon of Caldwell and Maxine Roberts of Caldwell. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and a number of great great grandchildren.

CLYDE RAY COCKRELL


Mr. Clyde Ray Cockrell of Fairfield, Texas passed away on May 18, 2007, in Fairfield. He was 79 years old.

Mr. Cockrell was born in Aransas Pass, Texas on December 28, 1927, the only child of Charlie Jess Cockrell and Maggie Mae (nee Folk).

Clyde Ray married Louise Bryant and the couple had one son, Billy Allen Cockrell. Mr. Cockrell had many jobs including construction work. He worked on many of the buildings in Fairfield, painting, Palestine Contractors, Mexia State School, Texas Department of Criminal Justice (Coffield and Beto 2 Units) as a prison guard.

In his later years Mr. Cockrell worked with his son Billy in mowing yards, painting buildings, sign painting and locksmithing. For 21 years together they owned Cockrell's Locksmith Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Mrs. Cockrell died in April of 1987. Mr. Cockrell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Billy Allen and Delwyn Cockrell, both currently living in New Zealand.

Funeral services for Mr. Cockrell were held on May 22, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Fairfield. Interment followed the service at Lakes Chapel Cemetery in Fairfield.

Capps Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.


WILL ADAIR GILLHAM


Mr. Will Adair Gillham, 88, of Mexia, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2007, in Temple, Texas. Mr. Gillham was born on November 27, 1918 in Muleshoe, Texas to William Albert and Mary Elizabeth Stone Gillham.

Mr. Gillham served his country in World War II in the United States Army. He was in the Pacific Theater during the war and later was a market manager for the Safeway food store.

Mr. Gillham made friends very easily and was loved by all who knew him. He was also very fond of fishing and was reported to have been able to catch fish when no one else could.

Mr. Gillham was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Delores Gillham and by one brother and three sisters.

Mr. Gillham is survived by his wife Annie Lucille Lewis Gillham, his children Linda Gillham Dodson of Mexia and Chance Gillham of Lubbock, his grandchildren Jon Anthony Kjos of New York, Rodney Gillham of Houston, Raquel McCarty of Lubbock, Jeffrey Dizmon of Riverside, California, Casey Gillham of Lubbock and Jessica Gillham of Lubbock. He is also survived by his great granddaughter Taylor Gillham of Houston and by his sister Velma Wilson of Lubbock. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.

A memorial service for Mr. Gillham was held on Thursday, May 24, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., at the Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel. Family received visitors at their home located at 200 LCR 409 after the memorial service.


ELSIE WILLIAMS TURNER


Mrs. Elsie Williams Turner passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2007, in Houston, Texas. She was 87 years old.

Elsie was born in Freestone County on March 25, 1920, to Henry Williams and Imogene Manning Williams, the third of five children.

Mrs. Turner was a graduate of Teague High School and resided in the area until 1942 when she moved to Houston.

Mrs. Turner was formerly employed by the University of Texas Dental School. She was a supervisor in the Clinical Science Department at the time of her retirement. Mrs. Turner was a member of Houston's First Baptist Church for 63 years. During recent years, she served with her husband as Inreach Leaders in the Crown Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Finis S. Turner, her daughter Sharon L. Turner of Houston and her brother Henry G. Williams of Teague, Texas. Elsie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the chapel of First Baptist Church with interment following at Forest Park West Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
