- RUBY J. BEASLEY


Ms. Ruby J. Beasley of Mexia, Texas, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2007, in Denton, Texas. She was 80 years old.

Ms. Beasley was born in Mexia, Texas and also lived in Pflugerville and Denton, Texas. She was a retired educator with the Mexia I.S.D. and Mexia State School.

Ms. Beasley attended Mexia Public Schools and received her B.S. in Secondary Education at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. She did her graduate work at Bishop College and Prairie View University. Ms. Beasley was a Charter Member of Mexia League of Involved Women, Limestone County Branch NAACP, Dunbar-Douglas Alumni Association, Dunbar High School Band Boosters, Girl Scout Troop Leader, Dunbar-Douglas Teacher Hall of Fame, Limestone County Retired Teachers Association, and Vacation Bible School Coordinator.

Ms. Beasley was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Mexia and affiliate member of St. James AME Church in Denton, Texas. She was on the Mexia City-Wide Usher Board and the Missionary Society.
Funeral services for Ms. Beasley were held on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Mexia, Texas.

Rev. Cleo High, Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Mexia officiated and Rev. Dr. Sherryl A. Matlock, Pastor of St. James AME Church in Denton, Texas was the Eulogist. Interment was at Mexia Memorial Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Tommy Dawkins, Milton Morgan, Jr., David Echols, Jr., Rev. Randell Forge, Lynn Harper and Min. Ricky Washington.

Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home of Teague was in charge of the arrangements.


ODIS DWAIN (O.D.) CHRISTIAN


Funeral services for Rev. Dr. Odis Dwain (O.D.) Christian, 85, of Kirvin, Texas, were held on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield, Texas.

Rev. Jack McDaniel, Rev. Terry Skinner and Rev. Orval Barger conducted the services with interment at Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin, Texas.

Rev. Christian was born on May 29, 1922, in Donie, Texas to H.O. and Lily Jolly Christian. He passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, in Groesbeck, Texas.

Rev. Christian served in the United States Navy for three years. He earned a Divinity Degree from Jacksonville Baptist and a Doctorate in Pastoral Services from North American Theological Seminary. His first church was at Post Oak and he preached for 22 years at Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Teague. He also preached around the Dallas area and at the time of his retirement he had 50 years in the ministry.

Rev. Christian was a 33rd Degree Mason, Past Master at Cotton Gin Lodge, Past District Deputy for the Masonic Lodge, Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Fairfield and Past Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Texas.

Rev. Christian is survived by his wife Francis Coleman Christian of Kirvin, his children Sarah Christian McGuffey and husband Ralph of Dallas, Jerry Christian and wife Kaye of Irving and Travis Christian and wife LaJuana of Spring, His grandchildren Betsy McGuffey Gooding and husband Brian of Pittsburg, Ralph McGuffey, Jr. of Dallas, Suzanne Christian Taylor and husband Tim of McKinney, Erin Christian of Irving, Chris Christian and wife Stephanie of Burleson and Cathey Haney and husband Michael of Tyler, 10 great grandchildren and his sister Mertis Eubanks of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers for Rev. Christian were Bob Christian, David Christian, Dennis Christian, Ralph McGuffey, Jr., Chris Christian, Tim Taylor and Michael Haney.

CLAUDE DALE REECE


Mr. Claude Dale Reece of Fairfield, Texas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 8, 2007. He was 70 years old.

Mr. Reece was born on January 25, 1937, in Shady Valley, Tennessee.

Funeral services for Mr. Reece were held on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield. Rev. Bobby Rutherford, Jr. officiated.

Mr. Reece is survived by his wife Margie Lowery Reece of Fairfield, his daughters Drucilla Wilson of Galveston, Laura Reece of Fairfield, Patrecia Huggins of Fairfield, Natalie Johnson and husband John of Maryland, his son Michael Reece and wife LaWanda of Corsicana, his grandchildren Leigh Ellett, James Wilson II, Janice Stubbs, Stephanie Stubbs, Joshua Sellers, Brittany Sellers, Ashley Sellers, Courtney Reece, Amber Reece, Karla Huggins and Brianna Huggins and his great grandchildren Blake Lummis and Brooklyn Pilkington.

Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield was in charge of the arrangements.


BARBARA ANN HALES


Barbara Ann Hales passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2007, at her home in Fairfield, Texas. She was 66 years old.

Mrs. Hales was born on September 10, 1940, in Ganado, Texas to Benjamin and Francis Mamerow.

Mrs. Hales is survived by her son John Hales and wife Joann of Fairfield, her sister Joyce Connors and husband T.W. of Tyler, Texas, her sister-in-law Emily Mamerow of Liberty, Texas, her niece Dana Connors of San Antonio, Texas and her life long friend Dovie Grisham of Ganado, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Hales and her parents.

Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield was in charge of the arrangements.


SUNLOCK M. BURLESON


Mr. Sunlock M. Burleson, 93, a retiree of Exxon after 40 plus years of service, passed away on August 11, 2007.

Mr. Burleson was born on August 12, 1913, in Limestone County, Texas. He and his wife Doris were married on April 28, 1934. They moved to Baytown in 1937.

Sunlock was a member of Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God in Baytown and will be missed and warmly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Doris Burleson; his son Joe Glenn Burleson; his parents Joseph A. and Agrippa Burleson; his brothers Joseph Grafton Burleson and John Parker Burleson; his brother-in-law Cliff Shugart; his sisters Eugie Grimes, Arva Grimes, Vera Shugart and Nellie Hawkins.

He is survived by his brother Tee M. Burleson and wife Francis of Fairfield; his sister-in-law Margie Burleson of Baytown; his nieces Shirley Burleson LaVergne of Baytown, Jean Burleson Creekmore of Baytown, Carolyn Rains of Huntsville, Barbara Shugart of Baytown, Joyce L. Race of Red Oak, June R. Smith of Burleson, Beverly R. Farris of Palestine; his nephews Don Hawkins, David Burleson, Frank Burleson, John Burleson, Roy Hawkins, Bob Grimes, Weldon Chandler, Haskell S. Roberts, Dennis L. Roberts, Kenneth Roberts; many great nieces and nephews; special caregivers Mary Moore, Zulene Kempt, Carolyn Elmore, JoAnn Chapman, Bernita Pace and Eva Villanueva. Also surviving Mr. Burleson was special friend Sandy Caruso.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be given too Trinity Tabernacle, 10008 E. Lobit, Baytown, Texas.

A graveside service was held at Lost Prairie Cemetery in Groesbeck, Texas on Tuesday, August 14, 2004.
