This is a really big week at the library. Lots of things are going on. Three, to be exact. Two of them are now in progress at the Community Center.
First, the Big Book Sale! Don’t miss it. All kinds of books are available. Select some of your favorites for a fraction of the cost.
Second, a Garage Sale! Who knows what treasures you may find there? If anyone has items to contribute to the sale bring them to the center. Contact the library if you have items that need to be picked up. All contributions are welcome.
The Book Sale and Garage Sale will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 8th – 10th, time 8:30 – 5:30, at the Community Center.
Third, a Bake Sale in front of Brookshire’s on Saturday, May 10th beginning at 9 a.m. Bakers and buyers are needed. Enjoy delicious deserts without slaving over a hot stove.
All three events are fundraisers used to make a better library. Our thanks go to head librarian Debbie Stonecipher and assistants Melissa Satterwhite and Diane Willis for the fine job they do in keeping and improving the library.
Listen up, kids and parents! School will soon be out, and here’s something to look forward to –– The 2008 Summer Reading Program, sponsored by the library. Meetings will be held on Thursdays –– three in June, and three in July. It begins with the exciting kick off on June 7th at the park, and ends with a pool party on July 25th. In between will be six meetings at the library. One group, made up of Pre K through 1st grade, will meet in the mornings, and 2nd grade through 6th grade will meet in the afternoons. Mark you calendar for this event!
We have some good folks to thank for contributions. David and Diane Willis have given memorial gifts for the following: Johnny Goodwin, Caluph Allison, Mildred Yielding, Jack Huffman, Tom Collins, and Bonnie McAdams.
Book donations were made buy: Ned Burns, Katy Hammon, Carla Fortenberry, Anne Carpenter, Deborah Morton, Beverly Tillman, Frances Sandifer, James Richardson, Ruth Brown, Virginia Collie, and Kathy Sue Taylor.
If you wish to honor someone with a memorial gift, a card will be sent to the person you name recognizing the gift. It is an excellent way to honor a friend or loved one. All contributions go into the book fund.
We close this report with a quote from the clever wisdom of Mark Twain; “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”
Good reading to you.
