Carroll Lumber Company was started in 1947 as Teague Lumber Company and is one of the oldest businesses in Teague.
Now owned by Clint and Kristen Skinner, the lumber company is still going strong. It is still, however, in the Carroll family. Kristen Little Skinner is the great granddaughter of the founder E.O. Nicholas and granddaughter of Glendon and Iva Nicholas Carroll.
Following the retirement of Glendon Carroll and when LaDonna Carroll Turner, who was in charge of the company for many years, decided to take another course, Clint and Kristen bought the business. ?When I started in December of 2007, I found that I didn't know much about the lumber business,? said Clint. ?But little by little I learned.? One of the first things he did was to change the business from ledger books and paper to computer.
Clint says he chose to purchase Carroll Lumber because he was tired working where he couldn't advance and did not want to move away from Teague. ?We all wanted to keep Carroll Lumber Company in the family,? said Skinner. Now the fourth generation is running the business.
Carroll Lumber Company can take care of all of your building needs right here in Teague. In addition to many grades and cuts of lumber they carry hardware and roofing, farm and ranch supplies and a very nice array of lighting fixtures.
Any time of the day you can find a group of workers at the lumber company talking about their latest jobs and whats happening around town. They like the company and that they know if they need something Clint will make sure they get it.
They carry a full line of Kelly-Moore Paint and can mix and match any color a person could want. They have all types of plumbing supplies and even thread pipes. There are nuts, bolts, nails, tools and a million of those small things that you may need to complete a job. Carroll Lumber also cuts glass.
Recently Clint Skinner and Carroll Lumber finished the baseball fields, softball fields, field house, indoor practice facility, concession stands, rest rooms, ticket booths and sidewalks for the new Teague High School. They also build custom homes.
Some people think that they can buy less expensively out of town but because of low overhead Carroll Lumber has very reasonable prices. If what you want is not in stock, they can order most anything you could want.
Clint Skinner was born in San Antonio in 1978 to Dennis and Marsha Skinner. His family moved to Teague in 1986 and he grew up here. He graduated from Teague High School in 1997 and TSTC in 2000.
