City's First Rebate Check Of 2012 Shows Decrease

The City of Teague has started off 2012 with a January sales tax rebate check in the amount of $29,750, a disappointing decrease of 25.82 percent from the $40,109 check sent to the city by the State Comptroller's office in January of 2011. The $29,750 January check is the city's portion of the state sales tax rebates from sales that occurred in the city in November of 2011.
Three quarters of all sales tax rebate checks sent to the City of Teague are deposited into the general fund for local operations and the remaining twenty-five percent of the check is deposited into the Teague Economic Development Corporation's fund account.
The City of Fairfield has started off 2012 with a $145,895 check, which is a whopping 32.26 percent more than the $110,301 check received at this time last year.
The City of Wortham and City of Streetman fell in line with Teague and also saw decreases in their first check of the new year. Wortham's check was in the amount of $6,967, down 24.25 percent and Streetman's check was in the amount of $2,967, down just 2.11 percent from this time last year.
The January sales tax allocations as a whole in Freestone County totaled $185,582, an increase of 14.1 percent from the $162,641 received in January of last year.
State Comptroller Susan Combs sent January 2012 tax allocations of $328.2 million to Texas cities, up 8.3 percent compared to January 2011. Texas State comptro9ller Susan Combs said that state sales tax revenue in December was $1.98 billion, up 9.5 percent compared to December 2010.
Leon County cities received sales tax payments of $127,367, an increase of 27.45 percent from this time last year.
Limestone County cities received sales tax payments of $254,522, a decrease of 1.02 percent from this time last year.
Anderson County cities received sales tax payments totaling $466,440, down 1.34 percent from one year ago.
Cities in Navarro County received sales tax payments of $457,388, up 5.01 percent from January 2011.
