Sales Tax Rebates Show Increase For 2011

The City of Teague received a total of $501,210 in sales tax rebates from the State Comptroller's Office during calendar year 2011.

This year's total of slightly over one-half million dollars showed a slight increase of 0.73 percent over 2010's final total of $497,554.

December's check to the city, which is for sales that occurred in October and reported to the Comptroller's office in November, totaled $26,264. The December payment showed a decrease of 31.36 percent from the $38,266 check received at this time last year.

Freestone County as a whole received a total of $2,661,258 during 2011, a decrease of 1.85 percent from 2010's year-end total of $2,661,258. Fairfield, Wortham and Streetman all showed slight decreases in sales tax rebate money for 2011.

Three quarters of the sales tax rebate checks sent to the City of Teague are deposited into the general fund for local operations and the remaining twenty-five percent of the check is deposited into the Teague Economic Development Corporation's fund account.

The City of Fairfield received a check this month in the amount of $164,248. The check is 18.54 percent more than the $138,555 received at this time last year.

For the calendar year 2011, Fairfield received checks totaling $1,955,381, a decrease of 2.39 percent from 2010's total payments of $2,003,347.

The City of Wortham received a check in the amount of $9,573, an increase of 20.66 percent over last year's check at this time of $7,934. In 2011, the City of Wortham received a total of $110,593 in sales tax rebates, a decrease of 4.0 percent from the $115,205 received during 2010.

The City of Streetman received a rebate check in the amount of $3,269 this month. The check was 35.31 percent more than the $2,416 check received at this time last year. In 2011, Streetman received rebate checks totaling $44,689, a decrease of 1.02 percent from 2010's total.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs sent December sales tax payments of $315.8 million to Texas cities, up 8.6 percent compared to December 2010.

Calendar year 2011 sales tax rebates to surrounding counties all showed increases over totals from 2010.

Limestone County's 2011 rebate total was $3,310,919, up 3.75 percent from $3,191,243 in 2010.

Leon County's 2011 rebate total was $1,495,744, up 10.26 percent from $1,356,508 in 2010.

Navarro County's 2011 rebate total was $5,615,199, up 5.42 percent from $5,326,369 in 2010.

Anderson County's 2011 rebate total was $6,326,620, up 6.55 percent from $5,937,548 in 2010.
