Teague City Council members approved a motion to set aside the remaining $48,000 presently allocated for swimming pool repairs and incorporate the funds into next year?s budget when the pool will hopefully be back in service for the citizens of Teague.
The action was taken during the City Council?s regularly scheduled meeting held Tuesday evening, July 15th at City Hall. Mayor Earnest Pack reports the pool did not pass inspection and could not be reopened this year due to safety issues concerning the electrical lights in the pool. Under new standards, the electrical system at the aging facility was not up to grade. Pack said the council is waiting on estimates to have the pool completely redone, and he believes the city can have the pool back in operation by next summer.
Council members agreed to move forward on three pieces of property in the city in violation of the city Health and Sanitation policy. The three property owners will be notified and have 30 days to bring their property up to code standards. If the property is not improved within the allotted time frame, the city may begin issuing daily fines and foreclosure procedures.
A motion was approved by the council to change the city?s procedure to require purchase orders for purchases to S1,000 or more to be signed by department directors instead of only by the City Administrator.
In other action taken during the meeting:
Council members authorized the Mayor and City Administrator to execute the 2013-2014 year end audit engagement letter in the amount of 12,500 ? 14,500 for hiring the firm of Anderson, Marx and Bohl, P.C. to perform the 2013 ? 2014 fiscal year end audit.
Council members approved the consent agenda and tabled taking action on approving the city?s investment policy until more information could be obtained.
