KD Jazz... Bring It Home Event Honors Kenny Dorham, April 4
Presented by Trinity Star Arts Council
The Trinity Star Arts Council (TSAC) announces its signature event for 2014, KD Jazz? Bring It Home, to take place on April 4, 2014. The City of Fairfield is a major sponsor for the event to be held at Depot X. The Kenny Dorham style jazz and supper will be backbeat and blues-drenched featuring award-winning Austin jazz ensemble Black Red Black.
The annual event honors Fairfield native son Kenny Dorham, one of the great jazz trumpeters, band leaders and composers of the bebop era. Durham performed with jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. TSAC hopes to preserve this musical element of our culture with Black Red Black?s groove music that had its heyday decades ago. While TSAC has installed a plaque at the Freestone County Historical Museum to honor Dorham?s legacy, the Council feels the best way to keep his memory alive is to present his music.
Depot X will be fitted in a retro 40s jazz supper club theme incorporating lighting and sets to give the feel of a jazz scene. Reserved tables for eight and open seating are available. A catered meal will be served.
KD Jazz?Bring It Home blends Kenny Dorham?s musical legacy and Austin?s jazz scene in an evening of entertainment. Tickets are forty dollars and reserved tables are four hundred for this annual event and are available at Armadillo Emporium, Teague Chronicle, and on the TSAC website, trinitystarartscouncil.org. Proceeds from the event will benefit art scholarships and programs.
