Teresa Black Running For District Clerk
In Republican Primary
2/13/2014 by BY TERESA BLACK
Hello! I?m Teresa Black and I am running for the office of District Clerk under the Republican Party.
I am a life long Freestone County resident and I am happy to call it my home. I grew up in Fairfield with my parents, J.R. and Johnnie Pye, and sister Brenda Barger, and graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Jacksonville College. I married my high school sweetheart, Steve Black, and together we?ve seen our three children, Brandon, Haylie, and Ashlie grow up, get married , and start their own families. Brandon is married to Amber Hancock from Teague and they have two children, Blaine and Adalyn. Haylie?s husband Casey, is also from Teague and they have a daughter, Brooklyn. Our youngest daughter Ashlie, is married to Justin Fuchs from Fairfield, and they have three sons, Jayden, Jensen, and Conner. Both of Steve?s parents, Purvis and Louise Black, have their roots planted firmly in Freestone County and call it their home too.
I grew up in Calvary Baptist Church and have always been a member there except for the time when Steve was the music & youth minister at Round Prairie Baptist Church. Between the two churches, I have taught Beginner Sunday School classes for 35 years. I grew up singing and I am still a choir member today at Calvary. I truly love my church family.
When Janet Chappell, our current district clerk, asked if I would consider running for this office, I was both honored and humbled, knowing I would have some big shoes to fill.
I have worked in the district clerk?s office with Ms. Chappell for ten years and am now serving as Ms. Chappell?s Chief Deputy Clerk.
Since college, all of my work experience has centered around the legal profession. I?ve worked in the law offices of Roy Hill, Steve Neal, Robert Dunn and Steve Keathley.
In the past ten years with the Freestone County District Clerk?s office, and as Ms. Chappell?s Chief Deputy Clerk, I have worked closely with the 77th and 87th judicial courts, in the processing of criminal, civil, and family law, including child protection services and juvenile cases. And as Ms. Chappell?s Chief Deputy Clerk, I supervise other deputies in the daily activities in the District Clerk?s office.
I have the experience, the know how, and the drive to run the District Clerk?s office to the standards for which it is known.
I have enjoyed my years working in the District Clerk?s office under Janet Chappell and I feel we have a great team of office staff of which I have been grateful to supervise in Miss Chappell?s absence.
If elected I promise to continue working hard for the county. You can be sure that I will see that it is managed in a manner that meets the legal standards set by the State of Texas while maintaining a presence of efficiency and efficiently with both honesty and integrity.
My grandkids call me ?Big? so remember: Teresa Black for District Clerk, A small decision for a ?Big? choice.
Thanks for your support and your votes. Early voting begins February 18th and the Primary Election is March 4th.
