In Republican Primary
1/31/2014 by BY LaTONYA JENKINS-WILLIS
Who I am: After being told by Freestone County District Clerk Janet Chappell that she was not seeking re-election, I decided to announce my candidacy. I am asking for Freestone County voters support. I have enjoyed working with Janet Chappell and the rest of the staff. I could not have asked for a sweeter boss after working so close with her these years. She will truly be missed. I am a visionary leader with experience in computer software to take this office to a more streamline county office for tax payers.
I have been employed in the Freestone County District Clerk?s office for more than seven years; and my experience in that office and the legal knowledge gained in that time would enable the office to continue to serve Freestone County in an efficient manner in the criminal, civil, and family law divisions. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and a Associate of Business Administration with an emphasis in computer software programs. I have computer knowledge and this would be beneficial in keeping tax payers cost down.
I am married to my high school sweetheart Donnell Willis, and we are longtime residents of this County. My husband is employed with Luminant Power Plant and grew up in the Butler Community. He is the son of the late Jessie Willis and mother Emma Willis lifelong residents of Freestone County. We have three beautiful children, two girls and a boy, who are active in Sports and UIL events. We love horses and ride in our leisure time. My family and I are members of a local church in the County. I enjoy giving back to the community by volunteering coaching little league sports, working with the children at the church, and helping the elderly. We have one dog named Rapunzel and a goldfish named Sam. We are Christians and put God First and Foremost.
WHAT I do:
Over the years working in this office I have had many different responsibilities. My current title is Criminal Deputy Clerk however please do not cast your vote based by my title but by the responsibilities I hold and the experience I?ve gained in this office. WHERE I want to take this office in the future:
Quality, honest, friendly public service has been the hallmark of the Freestone County District Clerk?s Office under Janet Chappell?s tenure. If elected I will continue that tradition. My experience and training under Janet Chappell?s leadership will benefit county residents. In the very near future, the office must be ready to step forward to meet state requirements mandating electronic filing of cases experience with computer software is vital. With an ever growing number of cases being filed in the 87th & 77th Judicial District Courts, there is a need to employ this advanced technology. Upgrading to efficient and cost saving technology will be a number one priority for me, if elected as Freestone County District Clerk. Records that are still archived in books, I plan on working with our County Commissioners to find ways to computerize them making it easier for the public to search and still keeping tax payers cost down in the transition.
WHY elect me as Freestone County District Clerk:
As you can see I have told you WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY to Elect me as your Freestone County District Clerk. I am more than qualified to run this office based on my experience and qualifications. I pray voters will consider that in making a decision. I enjoy serving the people in this County and want to continue for many more years to come. Do not vote based on my title of Criminal Deputy but by all the responsibilities that I do or have done, the knowledge I?ve gained, and the qualifications that I have. I am looking forward to meeting and visiting with Freestone County voters and to continue serving Freestone County if elected as district clerk. Thank You in Advance for your Help and Support.
