Obituaries -- December 12, 2013

H. NEIL BASS

H. Neil Bass, 85, of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at his home. Services were held Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. T. Paul Kethley officiating. Interment followed at Stewards Mill Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Bass was born December 25, 1927, and grew up in the Stewards Mill Community. He was a lifelong resident of Fairfield and Stewards Mill. His parents were Aubrey Handsel Bass and Marjorie Watson Bass. He graduated Fairfield High School in 1945 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1946. Following his military service he attended Stephen F. Austin University earning his B.S. degree in 1951 and his M.E. degree in 1971. He married Barbara Nicholas on April 12, 1952, in Fairfield. He retired in 1983 after teaching for 26 years mostly in Fairfield. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Freestone County Historical Commission. He was a charter member of the Fairfield Lions Club and Chairman of the Board of Stewards First United Methodist Church. He was honored as Citizen of the Year in 2007 by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in building a new wing to the Freestone County Museum. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Dave Neil Bass in 2003.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Barbara Nicholas Bass; a daughter, Donna Elaine Bass of Fairfield; a grandson, Joey Musgrave of Fairfield; three granddaughters, Melanie E. Musgrave Jackson and husband Brian of Denton, TX; Sisha Lee Palacio and husband Darrick of Fairfield; Leslie Ann Bass of Dallas; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Jackson of Denton, TX; Levy and Benjamin Palacio of Fairfield; and a host of relatives and friends.

JOE L. BRACKENS

Joe L. Brackens passed away on December 3, 2013 in Fairfield, Texas. He was 61 years old.

Mr. Brackens was born on December 3, 1951, in Fairfield, Texas, to George Alvin and Beauty Bell Brackens. He was one of 13 children.

Joe accepted Christ at an early age and joined Fairfield church of God In Christ. Later he attended Shiloh Baptist Church and then True Vine DOXA Center. He was also a member of the Butler Male Chorus.

Mr. Brackens was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dorsey (J.J.) Brackens, his siblings George Alvin Brackens, Lonnie James Brackens, Doyle Glenn Brackens, Eselma Brackens, Thelma Brackens, Olivia Brackens Winters and brother-in-law Herman Wilson. Mr. Brackens is survived by his wife Cheryl Brackens of Fairfield, his daughters JoAnn Marie Brackens of Mexia, Denise, Domanique ?DeDe? King of Palestine, his nephews he raised as sons Jeremy Brackens, Weldon Alexander and Eddie Brackens, his brother Cornelius Brackens of Dallas, his sisters Debra Davis, Emma Brackens, Lillian Brackens all from Fairfield; Minnie bell Wilson of Dallas, his aunt Laverne Brackens of Fairfield, his grandson Jason Brackens (mother Coretta) his father and mother-in-law Dorsey and Oleada Strawther, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Brackens were held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at True Vine DOXA Center in Fairfield, Reverend Michael Daniels, Sr. Pastor, Officiating and Eulogist.

Pallbearers for Mr. Brackens were David Brackens, Jr., Floyd Burns, Earl Terry, Bobby Durham, Jr., Jordan Williams, and Donald Brackens.

Final arrangements were entrusted to Emanuel Funeral Home of Teague.

ERNEST BUSBY

The Angelic Hosts came for Mr. Ernest Busby, 86, on December 7, 2013 at his Teague, Texas residence surrounded by loving family and devoted friends.

Viewing will be Friday, December 13, 2013, at Moore?s Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe Street, Teague, Texas from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM with family present from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 209 6th Ave, Teague, TX 75860. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery, First Street, Teague, Texas.

Mr. Busby was preceded in death by: the love of his life Mildred Lankford Busby, his Father: Ples Busby; his Mother: Mary Bell Butler Busby; his Daughters: Brendy Carol Busby and Mildred Earnestine Busby-Longmire; his Brother: Tom Anderson Busby; and his Sister: Imogene Salley. He was born on February 16, 1927.

He is survived by: his Son: Ernest Busby II and wife Constontial, Round Rock, TX; his Daughters: Rose Marie DeGrate and husband Curtis, Teague, TX; Dorothy Jean Quaite and husband Herbert, Waxahachie, TX; Diana Lynn Busby, Teague, TX; Evelyn Joyce Busby, Dallas, TX; Gloria Denise Busby-Carter and husband Alford, Teague, TX; and Bridgette Busby and husband Archie Hicks, Teague, TX; his Sisters: Geraldine Green, Waxahachie, TX; Della Mae Preston, Ennis, TX; Mary Lynn Shaw, Ennis, TX; his Brother-In-Law: Arby Lee Hambric, Las Vegas, NV; his Sister-In-Law: Rosa Lee Haynes, Teague, TX; 26 Grandchildren, 55 Great-Grandchildren, Numerous Great-Great Grandchildren, Extended Family and Special Friends.

VINA CORLEY

Mrs. Vina Corley passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in San Angelo, Texas. She was 74 years old.

Graveside services for Mrs. Corley were held on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Vina loved her family and was interested in animals, board games and card games. Anyone who knew here knew she would play solitaire all day and all night and would never pass up a chance to play bingo.

Vina was preceded in death by her husband, James Corley and her daughter Kathy Childs.

Mrs. Corley is survived by her daughters and their families, Beverly Fogleman and James of San Angelo and Rive Chapman of Rosamond, California; her son Danny Harvick of Pasadena; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; her sister Gloria Fuentes of Lake Los Angeles, California; and her brother Donald Raymond of Phoenix, Arizona.

SHARONDA YVETTE SCOTT

Funeral services for Sharonda Yvette Scott were held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Ministry of Hope in Temple, Texas, Demetris Beachum, Pastor. Reverend J.L. Roy, of Great Zion Baptist Church in Waco, officiated.

Interment was at Sand Hill Cemetery in Buffalo, Texas.

Sharonda Yvette Sauls Scott was born on May 11, 1968 in Temple, Texas, to Kenneth W. (Retired Navy) and Kathelean Morrison. She grew up as a military dependent and traveled with her parents to Orange Park, Florida where she attended Orange Park High School. She later married and became a military spouse, traveling to Astugi, Japan and Leemore, California. She returned to her home state of Texas to be closer to her family.

Ronda?s early religious training began at home and continued at various churches during her military travels. She loved the Lord and recently rededicated her life to Christ. She attended new Hope Worship Center in Killeen, Texas.

Sharonda enjoyed singing, entertaining her family and laughing at her mother?s jokes. Having a loving and nurturing spirit, Sharonda loved children and adored her dog, Vela.

She is survived by her children Karessa Shalean Sauls of Bowie Maryland and Marzell Allen and wife Mallory Scott of North Carolina, three granddaughters, Jas?lene, Aaliyah, Amyah.

She also leaves behind her devoted loving parents, Kenneth W. and Kathelean Morrison of Bowie, Maryland, her brothers Christopher Wilson and Charles and wife Darlene Wilson. She will be greatly missed by her Goddaughter Aamira Lames and her Godmother Dr. Rosalind Wright, aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends.

Sharonda was preceded in death by her grandparents, her uncles Stanley R. Haynes and David Minor, and her cousin Derrick Amos.

Pallbearers for Ms. Scott were Reginald Amos, John Haynes, Jr. Charles Wilson, Rodney Haynes, Christopher Wilson, and Calvin Abercrombie.

Final arrangements were entrusted to Emanuel Funeral Homes of Teague.
