Obituaries -- September 19, 2013

ROXIE L. CARTER

Funeral Services for Roxie L. Carter, 89, were held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Gibson Chapel a.m.E Church, C. R. 901, Mexia, Texas, Rev. Stanley Johnson, Pastor.

Rev. Cleo High served as Officant and Rev. Bill Burton was the Eulogist. Interment followed at Cotton Gin Cemetery, Freestone County, Texas. Roxie went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2013 at the Mexia LTC Nursing and Rehabilitation among loving family and devoted friends.

Mrs. Roxie L. Carter was born on December 10, 1923, to General Gamble and Eva Dee Williams Gamble. She attended Gibson Public Schools. Roxie dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. Mrs. Carter was baptized in the ?TANK? of Gibson Chapel a.m.E Church; where she remained faithful until her death. She was a member of the Choir, Sunday School, and Treasurer of the Missions Department. Roxie met and married Tommie Lee Carter in Mexia, Texas. Roxie retired from the Mexia State School and volunteered in the Foster Grandparents Program.

Roxie enjoyed fishing, yard work, and sitting at Wal-Mart.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters: Myrtle Lee Biggers and Eleader Mims; her niece: Carolyn Hudnall; and her nephew: Wallace Hudnall.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her sister: Erma D. Richardson; her nieces: Barbara High, Diane Hudnall and Michele Hudnall; her nephews: William Hudnall, Jr. and wife Denette and Harvey Mims, all of Dallas, TX; her great-nephews: Quincy Curry, Timothy Hudnall, Deont?e Harris, and Nicholas Murphy; two Special Friends: Mary Cyrus and Robin Adams and a host of other relatives and friends.

DONNA MOZELLE BROOKS EVANS

Funeral services for Donna Mozelle Brooks Evans, 64, beloved mom, grandma, daughter, sister, were held at 2:00pm, Monday, September 16, 2013 at the First Assembly of God Church in Teague, Texas.

Reverend Spain Trask and Reverend Andy Salagaj officiated. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery, in Teague. Visitation was held Sunday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Bowers Funeral Home, in Teague.

Donna passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013, following an illness. Donna was a resident at Larkspur Transitional Care in Lufkin, Texas. She had been a long term resident of Lufkin with the exception of the last few years prior in Teague.

Donna was born April 20, 1949, in Jacksonville, Texas. She graduated from Lufkin High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. She married Malcolm Perry Evans on April 19, 1969, they were married 42 years. She owned ?Interiors by Donna? in Lufkin for many years. Donna was a talented seamstress and had an eye for detail. She and Perry loved to travel. Donna also loved the beach, and loved to read.

Donna had a sweet, unassuming personality. You never heard many complaints from her and she always took her life in stride, always feeling blessed, whatever the circumstance.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Perry Evans and wife, Pamela, and Malcolm Lee Evans and wife, Misty; three grandsons, Hunter Evans, Tyler Evans and Merrick Evans; sister, Linda Latimer and husband, Frank of Lufkin; and mother and father, Joy and Arthur Brooks of Lufkin. Donna is also survived by brother and sister-in-laws, Rob and Barbara Evans of Teague, and Grayson and Pat Evans of Georgia; and her dearest Uncle, Joe Felder of Waller, Texas, and her five cats, Keke, Bucky, Smoky, B.W. and Scooter.

Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Perry in 2011, her in-laws, June and Lamar Evans and grandparents, Harmon and Gertrude Felder, and Arthur, Sr., and Gladys Brooks.

Revelations 21:4? And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.

The Angelic Hosts came for Mr. Virgil Keeton, Sr., 92, at his Fairfield, Texas residence on September 12, 2013 among loving family and devoted friends.

A viewing will be held Friday, September 20, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, 360 Church Street, Fairfield, TX. Funeral Services for Mr. Virgil Keeton, Sr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Mount St., Fairfield, TX. Interment will take place at the Hopewell Cemetery in Fairfield, Texas.

JAMES WENDELL McILVEEN

It is with profound sadness that the family of James Wendell McIlveen conveys his passing from this life on Friday, September 13, 2013, in Houston, TX.

James, 69, was the son of the late Milford and Eva Lois McIlveen. The family will receive guests for viewing at 10:00 am. to 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, September 21 at the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Mount St., Fairfield, TX, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. Phone 903-389-2221.

VIRGINIA ROSE RETZ

Memorial services for Mrs. Virginia Retz, 80, will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 2:00p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mexia. Rev. Marcus Sheffield will officiate.

Mrs. Retz passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at her residence near Donie. Mrs. Retz was diagnosed with cancer and expected to live for only three months, but her battle lasted over two and a half years.

She was born and raised in Richmond, Indiana. She married Keith Retz on June 1, 1951, and shared over sixty-two years together. Mrs. Retz moved to Texas in 1972, and lived in Sanger for thirty-three years before moving to Freestone County in 1994. Mrs. Retz was an accomplished roper, heeling steers, and barrel racer and won numerous prizes and saddles in both events. She was a true animal lover and rescued several dogs over the years. Mrs. Retz was a very kind person, never met a stranger, and always saw the good in people. She worked in Education as a payroll director for several years. She was a great mom and wife and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Retz was a fine Christian lady and attended the Methodist Church in Donie.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Retz; one son, Mike Retz and wife Donna all of Donie; two grandsons; one sister, Sue Ann Cappa and husband Dan of Richmond, ID; one niece; one nephew; special friends, Jessica and Josh Holliman, Vivki Smith, and John and Lisa Newsome.

Mrs. Retz was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Dorothy Lohrey.
