August Rebate Check shows Increase
The City of Teague has received a check in the amount of $76,203.59 for their portion of the state sales tax rebate sent out each month by the State Comptroller?s office.
Teague?s August 2013 rebate check showed a healthy 55.54 percent increase from the $48,990.33 check sent to the city at this time last year. For the first eight months of this year, the City of Teague has received checks totaling $473,206.54, an increase of 50.96 percent from last year?s total at this time of $313,45726.93.
The sale of beer and wine in the city limits, which was approved by voters late last year is the main reason for the large increases in sales tax refunds.
Three quarters of all sales tax rebate checks sent to the City of Teague are deposited into the general fund for local operations and the remaining twenty-five percent of the check is deposited into the Teague Economic Development Corporation?s fund account.
The City of Fairfield received a check in the amount of $261,877.66 this month. The check is a 10.35 percent increase from the $237,303.33 check received at this time last year. So far in 2013, Fairfield has received checks totaling $1,480,879.22, a 7.38 percent increase from the $1,378,999.94 received by this time last year.
The City of Wortham received a check in the amount of $10,772.47, a decrease of 25.62 percent from last year?s check at this time of $14,484.30. So far in 2013, Wortham has received checks totaling $104,444.60, an increase of 2.78 percent from the $101,614.75 check received last year.
The City of Streetman received a check in the amount of $3,995.36 this month. The check was 30.51percent more than the $3,061.22 received at this time last year. So far this year Streetman has received checks totaling $26,571.97, an increase of 2.89 percent compared to last year?s check of $25,823.89.
The August sales tax allocations as a whole in Freestone County totaled $352,849.08, an increase of 16.13 percent more than the $303,839.18 received in August of 2012. For the first eight months of 2013, Freestone County cities have received checks totaling $2,085,102.33, an increase of 14.57 percent over 1,819,895.84 received by this time last year.
State Comptroller Susan Combs sent August 2013 tax allocations of $671.0 million to Texas cities, up 6.2 percent compared to August 2012.
Cities in Limestone County received sales tax payments totaling $305,433.16 a decrease of 4.87percent from the $321,084.25 received at this time last year. This year Limestone County has received $2,267,843.65 up 1.28 percent from the $2,239,080.11 received in July 2012.
Leon County cities received sales tax payments of $168,511.15, an increase of 19.52 percent from the $140,989.10 received last year at this time. So far this year Leon County has received sales tax checks in the amount of $1,132,410.78 up 5.59 from the August 2012 rebate of $931,072,452.52.
Anderson County cities received sales tax payments totaling $584,466.04, down 3.79 percent from the $607,512.51 at this time one year ago. Sales tax rebates for Anderson County in 2013 have totaled $4,223,007.19 down 3.79 percent from the $4,223,007.19 received in August of 2012.
