Classic Film CASABLANCA Showing At THS, August 23
A screening of the 1942 classic, CASABLANCA ? starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman ? will take place August 23, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Theatre at Teague High. The movie is one of several movies featured in the Back to School Classic FilmFEST presented by TSAC.
This epic love story is included in AFI?s list of 100 greatest movies made in the first one hundred years of American cinema.
Bogie and Bergman light up the screen for TSAC Film Fest 2013 with unforgettable lines still quoted and loved. For example, ?Play it once, Sam. For old time?s sake.?; ?Here?s looking at you kid.?; and ?The world will always welcome lovers as time goes by.?
The tune ?As Time Goes By? contains one of Casablanca?s most important themes. The lyrics of the song are significant since the message of the song suggests that the world is a complicated place full of continuous change, but that one thing remains constant: timeless, enduring romantic love. The passage of time is one of the film?s main themes, and the question of whether love endures is one of its central questions.
Time and history, in the form of war, dominate the present and steer the future in the film. The future can and does bring situations that interrupt love, and the fundamental things do not always apply.
CASABLANCA won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. For some, the iconic film CASABLANCA will seem like an old friend, and, for others, it will seem like making a wonderful new acquaintance.
Most impressive will be for viewers to experience CASABLANCA for the first time on the ?big screen.? Padgitt?s of Waco will project the film on a forty-foot wide cyclorama on stage.
TSAC invites you to experience movie making at its best during the Back to School FilmFEST. Admission is free to the public.
Following CASABLANCA will be the classics MARY POPPINS, and LOONEY TUNES on August 24th at 2 p.m. and GIANT, the Texas sizecd epic based on Edna Ferber?s novel on August 25th , also at 2 p.m.
