Dr. Nate Carman To Lead Teague ISD

As New Superintendent

Superintendent Nate Carman

Dr. Nate Carman assumed the role of Superintendent for the Teague Independent School District on May 20, 2013 following the retirement of Ned Burns who had served the TISD for 11 years.

?I was looking for a superintendent position and of the interviews I had taken, I felt Teague was the most positive,? said Mr. Carman. ?I realized that the seven people on the Teague School Board had no personal agendas and want what is best for the students.?

Carman previously served as Assistant Superintendent in Pine Tree ISD, Longview, Texas, where he oversaw the curriculum, instruction, and assessment department of the approximately 4,700 student district for the past four years. Dr. Carman said, ?My goal is to focus student achievement. TISD should be at or above the state average for student achievement.?

Dr. Carman grew up in Akron, Colorado and obtained his bachelor?s degree in Mathematics from Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. To obtain his Master?s degree, Dr. Carman ventured to Texas Women?s University in Denton, Texas. His doctorate in Educational Administration is from the University of North Texas in Denton.

After teaching and coaching for several years, Dr. Carman became the assistant Principal of McKamy Middle School for Lewisville ISD. He then moved on to become the Assistant Principal of South Grand Prairie High School. He has served as Principal for Wilmer Hutchins High School and K-12 Director of Mathematics for Grand Prairie ISD.

Dr. Carman and his wife Danica have raised two children. Their son Brian will begin his second year of law school at Texas Wesleyan University this Fall and their daughter, Alex is a sophomore at SMU. Dr. and Mrs. Carman live in Teague and he is a member of the Teague Rotary Club and one of 23 charter members of the new Teague Lions Club.

?In a larger district such as Pine Tree, administration has to cover multiple areas and wear different hats. Being a part of one of three schools, the Pirates, Lobos, or Panthers it?s nice to just be ALL LION!? said Carman.

Dr. Carman said, ?I am very impressed with the character of the people I have met so far. I will work to focus the district efforts to support what is best for the students of the Teague ISD.?
