Graves To Be Decorated Locally On Memorial Day
It is time again for Memorial Day to be coming upon us here in the United States. Many folks will be out decorating graves across the nation with flags and remembering fallen Heroes of our military from the past.
This year, the American Legion Post #238 of Teague will also decorate graves in Teague and Cotton Gin. The cemeteries we will be visiting will be Greenwood and Antioch in Teague. Also, both cemeteries in the Cotton Gin Community. We will honor all veterans of all wars of our nation’s past. Including the graves of those that fought for the Confederate States of America. One difference though will be that the Confederate graves will be decorated with the first flag of the Confederacy. It was felt that this flag would be more acceptable than the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. The first flag of the Confederacy is somewhat similar to the U.S. flag. It has a blue field with 7 stars in a circle and two red stripes with a white stripe between the red ones.
If you would like to help us put out the flags on May 25th please come to the Veterans Remembrance Park located on the Loop in Teague. We plan to meet there at 9:00 a.m. and then break up to go to the cemeteries. Anyone that would like to help is welcome to do so. Scouts are especially welcome as they could earn points toward some merit badge they may be working on. This is both Boy and Girl Scouts.
Hope to see you there.
