Guerrero, Sims Are Top Students In Class Of 2013
THE “TOP TWO” GRADUATES at Teague High School for 2013 are . Come to the Teague High School graduation exercises on June 7, 2013 and hear the speeches of Miss Guerrero and Miss Sims. Haley is the daughter of Luis and Tobi Guerrero and Morgan is the daughter of Shannon and Leslie Sims.
Teague top graduates for the Class of 2013 are Valedictorian, Haley Guerrero and Salutatorian, Morgan Sims. With their dedication to academics, Miss Guerrero was named top student of her class with a grade point average of 4.725 followed closely by Miss Sims with a grade point average of 4.709.
Haley Guerrero is the daughter of Luis and Tobi Guerrero and will graduate with 30 college hours to her credit. She plans to attend Texas A&M University at College Station to earn her Bachelor?s degree in Allied Health. After graduation she plans to attend a graduate university and earn her Master?s degree to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
Haley has always had a profound ambition towards helping children in third-world countries. Those who cannot afford healthcare are the ones she desires to help most. She also plans to act as a missionary on this journey, and she strongly believes that this is her path that God has planned for her.
About her drive and success Haley said, ?I could not have done any of it without my mom and dad. They have been to everything I was involved in cheering me on and supporting me in every endeavor. They are how I got through all the stress of school, academic and social. They have helped me through all the downfalls and successes.?
Miss Guerrero has been involved in the National Honor Society throughout high school and has been Class President her freshman, sophomore, and junior year, and Vice-President of the National Honor Society.
She was named Miss Teague High School of the Class of 2013 and Homecoming Duchess in 2010. Haley is the captain of the varsity volleyball and basketball teams and co-captain of he varsity cheer squad at T.H.S. She was named Volleyball All-District Setter of the Year and made the All-Region Team in basketball.
Haley is part of the varsity track team and qualified as a Regional Finalist. In addition, Haley has also been named Teague Volleyball MVP two years on a row. Haley is also a part of the Teague Junior Chamber of Commerce, Teague Student Council, Lions for the Lord, and the UIL Calculator Team. Haley is a member of the Eighth Avenue Baptist Youth Group. Haley credits her success, in part, to Ms. Lola Myers. ?She is a roll model to my faith in God, and an inspiration to me,? said Miss Guerrero. ?She taught me a lot.?
Morgan Elizabeth Sims, daughter of Shannon and Leslie Sims and oldest sister of Mallorie and Mollie Sims, plans to attend the University of Texas at Tyler in the fall of 2013 to receive her Bachelor?s of Science degree in Nursing.
Morgan?s goal is to work in labor and delivery after college graduation. Miss Sims has 30 college hours to her credit.
Morgan was born and raised in Teague as was her parents and grandparents, all graduates of Teague High School. About her parents, Morgan said, ?My parents have raised me to put academics first. They have always been strict because they know what I am capable of. I would not be where I am today if it wasn?t for my amazing parents and their support in everything I do.?
Miss Sims has been very busy during her time at T.H.S. and has had many accomplishments. She was on the varsity cheer squad three years and served as the 2012-2013 varsity cheer captain. Morgan was also a 2012 and 2013 varsity powerlifting regional qualifier. She competed in numerous UIL events placing 5th in News Writing in 2013, 6th in Number Sense in 2010, 4th in 2012, and 4th in 2013 as well. She also competed in Calculator placing 3rd in 2012 and 1st in 2013 where she later competed at the Regional UIL Meet in Stephenville, Texas.
Morgan was a member of the 2012-2013 T.H.S. newspaper staff and a member of the Spanish Club. She was the 2012-2013 treasurer of the National Honor Society, a member of the Hispanic Honor Society, and will be graduating with distinctive Honors. She is currently the First United Methodist church youth leader and youth representative.
Miss Sims says that her success was helped along by Teague High School teacher Lana Erwin who taught her Fashion and Nutrition. ?She taught me to sew, gave the best advice, and would always listen, said Morgan. ?She has been a great inspiration in my life.?
