Murdered D.A. And Wife Buried In Wortham
Funeral services for Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, who were found shot to death in their home outside Forney, Texas, Saturday morning was held at the First Baptist Church of Wortham on Friday, April 5th at 10 a.m.
Hundreds of lawmen and prosecutors will came to Freestone County to pay their respects to McLelland, a Wortham native, and his wife, Cynthia. Burial will follow in the Wortham Cemetery. Cynthia will be cremated and her ashes buried in the casket with her husband.
One of McLelland?s assistant prosecutors was assassinated two months ago in downtown Kaufman. Since that time, McLelland said he carried a gun everywhere he went and took extra care when answering the door at his home.
?I?m ahead of everybody else because, basically, I?m a soldier,? the 23-year Army veteran said in an interview about two weeks ago.
Authorities have given no motive in the slayings, but in a recent Associated Press interview, McLelland raised the possibility that his assistant prosecutor was gunned down by a white supremacist gang.
Reports indicate that McLelland was shot multiple times with what is believed to be an assault rifle, while Cynthia McLelland was only shot once. Sources also say there were no signs of forced entry into their home.
The FBI and the Texas Rangers joined the investigation into the McLellands? deaths.
The couple were the parents of two daughters and three sons.
