Lions Take 4th In Ferris/Palmer Baseball Tournament
Sixteen Teams Participate
The Teague Lions went 2?2 in the I-45 Classic Baseball Tournament and finished in 4th place in the 16-team invitational tournament. The Lions opened on Friday with an 8-1 win over the Wortham Bulldogs, and later that evening took an 8-7 victory over the state-ranked Palmer Bulldogs. In the first game Kent Bonner notched his fourth win on the young season. In the second game, Austin Skinner got his first victory on the mound while teammate Aaron Mitchell garnered a save over Palmer.
But as Saturday turned cold, so did Lion bats. Teague was only able to generate 4 runs in its next two games as the Lions suffered an 11-3 loss to Crandall and a 3-1 defeat to Ferris. Lane Scruggs and Austin Skinner were selected to the All tournament team.
With the two losses, the Lions? season record moves to 6-3 as district play begins on Tuesday at Lions Field. The Buffalo Bison will come to town on Tuesday with the JV to begin at 4:30 followed by the varsity at 7 p.m. On Friday both the JV and Varsity will be participating in the Franklin Invitational Tournament.
