Donations Sought For Wortham City Park

For Items Not Included In Grant

The Wortham Economic Development began plans for building the Wortham City Park in 2006. The project was started when a matching grant was received from the Texas Parks and Wildlife. The Park Director, Mary Meyers, met with the agents for step-by-step directions with help from Norris Buchmeyer for tentative plans. Eric Samford, Terry Van, and Mollie McCoslin helped Mary on other facets of the project. Dirt has been moved and the baseball and soccer fields are almost complete. The slab for the pavilion has been poured and the metal roof is next in line.

Following that will be fencing around the baseball fields and the children?s playground.

The future will include a walking trail, a sand volleyball court, and a game table for the adults. For those quiet times you can visit the butterfly garden or watch the birds.

The EDC will need financial help from the public for finishing this new Wortham Park. Our grant does not cover the restrooms, the kitchen, or the cost of the playground equipment. Please contact Mary Meyers, 254-855-1863, for information or to make donations.
