The 10th annual Teague Relay for Life will be held on May 4, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Teague City Park.

The Kick-Off meeting for the event, held on Tuesday, February 5th, began with chairperson Linda Steen welcoming everyone and introducing the Teague Relay for Life committee.

American Cancer Society representative, Tiffany Compton, spoke on the programs offered by the Cancer Resource Network. Road to Recovery is a program that provides patients with transportation to and from appointments. Look Good, Feel Better is a program for female cancer patients where a certified cosmetologist helps them to deal with the side effects that come with many cancer treatments. They provide free fuel cards, makeup, comfort pillows, wigs, hats, scarves, bras and prostheses as well as equipment that relates to rehabilitation. Theresa Bell Prasil spoke on her battle with ovarian cancer and her recovery. She is celebrating twenty-one months of being cancer free.

A cupcake decorating contest gave the meeting an interesting twist. The cupcakes were judged on the Most Frosting and Most Creative. It was great fun and everyone got to eat cupcakes! All who participated received a prize.

The Teague Relay for Life Committee will hold a Team Captain University on Friday, February 22nd, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Teague. All teams, new and returning, are asked to attend this meeting. Motivation techniques and how to inspire team members will be a main topic as well as new fundraising ideas shared by team captains.

Participating in Relay for Life is a very fulfilling cause. The fun, fellowship, and inspiration that a person receives from this event is worth so much more than the effort given.
