City Receives $53,705.47 Rebate Check
Sales Tax Shows Slight Increase
The City of Teague has received a check in the amount of $53,705.47 for their portion of the state sales tax rebate sent out each month by the State Comptroller?s office.
The February 2013 rebate check showed a 2.13 percent increase from the $52,583.84 check sent to the city at this time last year. So far in 2013, the City of Teague has received sales tax rebate checks in the amount of 88,062.75, up 6.95 percent from the $82,334.73 received by this time in 2012.
Three quarters of all sales tax rebate checks sent to the City of Teague are deposited into the general fund for local operations and the remaining twenty-five percent of the check is deposited into the Teague Economic Development Corporation?s fund account.
The sales tax rebate figures for February represent December sales reported by monthly filers as well as sales by businesses that report tax on a quarterly or annual basis. The check does not reflect sales taxes made on the sale of alcohol in Freestone County. These sales taxes will not begin to show up until checks are received in March and April for sales made in January and February.
The City of Fairfield received a check in the amount of $247,882.35 this month. The check is 3.84 percent more than the $238,707.78 check received at this time last year. So far in 2013, the City of Fairfield has received sales tax rebates in the amount of 372,170.34, down 3.23 percent from the $384,603.67 received by this time last year.
The City of Wortham received a check in the amount of $19,182.50, a decrease of 28.83 percent from last year?s check at this time of $26,954.48. Sales tax rebate checks received so far in 2013 by the City of Wortham total $31,126.49, down 8.24 percent from the $33,922.01 received by this time last year.
The City of Streetman received a check in the amount of $4,122.69 this month. The check was 8.55 percent more than the $3,797.83 check received at this time last year. Checks totaling $7,598.26 have been received for the City of Streetman so far this year, an increase of 12.30 percent over the 6,765.52 received by this time in 2012.
The February sales tax allocations as a whole in Freestone County totaled $324,893.01, an increase of 0.88 percent from the $322,043.93 received in February of last year. So far this year, Freestone County has received checks totaling $498,597.84, a slight decrease of 1.7 percent from the $507,625.93 received during the first two months of 2012.
State Comptroller Susan Combs sent February 2013 tax allocations of $486.9 million to Texas cities, up 3.6 percent compared to February 2012, and 4.8 percent year-to-date.
Cities in Limestone County received sales tax payments totaling $324,330.03 for February 2013, an increase of 3.26 percent from the $335,486.22 received at this time last year. This year Limestone County has received $590,009.20 in sales tax rebates, down 0.05 percent from the first two months of 2012.
Leon County cities received sales tax payments of $162,246.36, a decrease of 0.38 percent from the $162,872.97 received at this time last year. So far this year, Leon County has received sales tax checks in the amount of $278,474.33 down 4.05 percent from the $290,240.03 received by this time last year.
Anderson County cities received February sales tax payments totaling $648,105.90, down 6.73 percent from the $663,933.49 received this time last year. Sales tax rebates for Anderson County so far in 2013 total $1,158,917.25, down 0.21 percent from the $1,161,360.90 received during the first two months of 2012.
