Lions Play District Leading Bulldogs, 50-57

Tuesday Jan. 29th, the Teague Lions traveled to Marlin to play the district leading Bulldogs. In front of a packed house, the Bulldogs held on to beat the visiting Lions 57-50. It was a close game all the way until the end, the Lions managed to tie the ball game up in the 4th quarter, but couldn't get the lead. We lost because of turnovers stated Coach Patrick. "We didn't play good at all, but Marlin couldn't put us away. I told the kids at halftime that we're only down 3 points and we've played awful, so just think about when we start to play better." Marlin kept pace with the Lions in the 3rd quarter, pushing the lead to 4 pts at the end of the 3rd. In the fourth quarter the Lions went on a run led by Lane Scruggs and Austin Skinner to tie the game mid way through the 4th quarter. Back to back turnovers after tying the score proved to be detrimental to the Lions. We played good in spurts, said Coach Patrick, but good isn't good enough anymore in Teague, Texas!

Leading the Lions in scoring was Lane Scruggs with 18 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 boards

Daryl Brooks had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. Austin Skinner off the bench scored 10 points and had 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Rounding out the scoring was Trae Bell with 8 points and 4 rebounds, and John Love had 1 point, 1 assist and 2 rebounds.

Teague 86 Riesel 30

Friday February 1st, the Teague Lions hosted the visiting Riesel Indians. The Lions cruised to an 86-30 victory over the Indians. Teague jumped out and had a 26-2 lead after the 1st quarter and never looked back. At the beginning of the game I preached about playing to our potential and not playing down to another teams potential. "Believe me, it was still things I got onto them about during the game said Coach Patrick." "I'm going to coach them regardless if we're up 50 points or down 50 points." I was proud of the team in the way they bounced back from the Marlin loss, because I know they wanted to beat them.

Leading the Lions to victory was Lane Scruggs with a game-high 28 points, 9 assists, 7 steals, and 4 rebounds. Daryl Brooks was close behind with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals , and 1 assist. Damian Jones off the bench, again hit 2 big three pointers as he finished with 9 points, 2 steals, 2 rebounds, and a blocked shot. Xavier Dixon had a solid game putting up 7 points, 4 assists, 4 steals, 4 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring was: John Love with 4 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist, Trae Bell also had 4 points, with 11 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block shot, Jordan Maggard had 3 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal, Dustin West also had 3 points, 1 assist and 1 board. Thomas Hamilton finished out the scoring with 2 points and 1 rebound. Austin Skinner didn't score but had 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist.

The Lions are open on Tuesday and will have Senior-Night on Friday when they host the visiting Buffalo Bison. This is a big game for the Lions and we're calling all Teague Lions fans out on Friday. Come out and cheer the boys to victory!!
