Lady Lions JV Finishes 12-0 In District
The Teague Lady Lions Junior Varsity capped off an undefeated District 23-2A ledger with a 50-18 home win over Riesel on Friday, February 1, 2013.
The win in the final game of the 2012-13, coupled with an earlier forfeit by Marlin on Tuesday, January 29, ran the JV?s district record to a perfect 12-0 under Coaches Melissa Padgett and Christina Blake.
Teague led 15-9 after one quarter before clamping down on the defensive end to limit its guests to a single bucket in the second quarter to go into the break with a 29-11 halftime advantage.
The Lady Indians outscored Teague in the third period by a 6-3 mark before the Lady Lions roared back in the final quarter with 18 points to finish off the 32-point victory by holding Riesel to one point in the fourth period.
Teague?s Hannah Matchett led all scorers with 19 points followed closely by Hope Scales who poured in 17 points. Others scoring for the Lady Lions were Shelby Lafoy (8 points), Stine Rype (4) and Kari Snelding (1) while Jasmine McQuirter and Kayla Wagoner also saw considerable action in the win for Teague.
This past season, the Lady Lions often suited up two separate teams for competition when opponents could be scheduled for the split squads. Others who also played during the 2012-13 season for the Junior Varsity/Freshman teams were Harlie Hill, Kirsten Marriott, Malea Anderson, Katlin Keaton, Kiana Adams and Olivia Guerrero.
