Lions Dominated Riesel Indians for 52-18 Victory
The Teague Lions traveled last Tuesday to Riesel to take on the Indians. The Lions dominated the Indians on every aspect of the game for a 52-18 victory. The Lions held the Indians to 9 points in the first half and 9 points in the second half. "I was very proud of my boys and in the way they played defensively", stated Coach Patrick. ?I have been preaching the importance of playing great defense every game, because some nights shots won't fall but the defense can be there night in and night out.? The Lions evened their district record to 2-2. The Lions next district game will be Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Buffalo and Friday, Jan. 18 at home against Rice.
The Lions were led by Daryl Brooks with his 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 steals. Lane Scruggs played a solid game putting up 13 points, 9 steals, and 4 assists. Jordan Maggard had 9 points, 9 rebounds (all offensively), 4 steals, and 4 assist. Trae Bell chipped in 4 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Austin Skinner also scored 4 points and had 3 steals. John Love rounded out the scoring with 2 points also had 4 rebounds and a steal.
The starters sat out the fourth quarter allowing other role players to get valuable playing time.
Defensively the whole team played great! Seth Strader had 3 steals, Dustin West had 2 assists and 2 steals, Clayton Davis had 2 steals, Thomas Hamilton had 2 rebounds, Damian Jones had 1 rebound. The Lions collectively had 29 steals in the game. Daryl Brooks said, "With the district being up for grabs, Coach Patrick told us if we take pride in our defense we'll be hard to beat."
