Lady Lion Junior Varsity wins fifth game in a row
MILDRED - Teague?s Lady Lions Junior Varsity-1 ran its District 23-2A record to a perfect 4-0 with two more wins in its latest action with a 54-13 victory at Mildred on Friday, December 21 after posting a 39-19 win at home over Blooming Grove on Tuesday, December 18.
In the win at Mildred, the Lady Lions scored 31 points in the opening period behind 11 points from Hannah Matchett and 10 more from Jasmine McQuirter as six Teague players scored in the first quarter.
After leading 31-0 at the end of the first, the pace slowed a bit over the remainder of the contest with Teague holding a 37- 7 halftime advantage. The Lady Lions led 45-11 after three quarters before finishing with 54-19 victory to push it season ledger to 11-1.
McQuirter finished with 16 points to lead all scorers followed by Matchett (15 points), Hope Scales (9 points), Kari Snelding (6), Shelby Lafoy (4), Kayla Wagoner (2) and Stine Rype (2).
Utilizing a combined squad of both the JV-1and JV-2 squads, Teague collected its tenth win of the season on Tuesday, December 18 when it picked up a 39-19 win over the visiting Blooming Grove Lady Lions.
The locals led 13-0 after the opening period and 23-7 at the break before outscoring their guests 16-12 over the final two quarters to notch a 20-point victory with the 39-19 win.
Hope Scales led all scorers with 13 points while Jasmine McQuirter and Hannah Matchett both finished with 11 points apiece and Katlin Keaton added four points to round out the scoring.
Others seeing action for Teague in the victory were Harlie Hill, Shelby Lafoy, Kirsten Marriott, Malea Anderson, Kari Snelding, Kianna Adams, Olivia Guerrero, Kayla Wagoner and Stine Rype.
After an extended break due to the Christmas holidays, Teague was slated to resume action by playing in the Groesbeck JV Tournament on January 3 and 5 sandwiched around a district encounter with Marlin at home on Friday, January 4.
