A glimpse of 2012 as seen by the Chronicle

The Teague Lion Band held their annual Christmas Band Concert on Monday, December 17, 2012. Cari Martin, Head Band Director, led the band as the beautiful Christmas music filled the air and everyone’s hearts with Christmas spirit. Playing their French horns are (l to r) Izzy Rubio, Olivia Guerrero, Haley Tinsley and Candace Clemmons.

The Teague Chronicle welcomes 2013 with the reflections of activities in 2012.

From the beginning of 2012 to the end of 2012, newsworthy activities and happenings occurred continually in Teague and the surrounding area.

To refresh memories and very briefly summarize the year, the following has been taken from 2012?s files.

January 5th:

Nathan Havens, senior at Teague High School, spent part of his winter break attending the Christmas Classic Debate Tournament at Rice High School that was held on Saturday, December 17, 2011. He participated in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate and took first place overall in the LD Portion of the tournament.

No winner has been declared yet in The Chronicle?s 2012 First Baby of Freestone County contest. Some lucky little boy or girl will win some valuable prizes and recognition for themselves and parents if they?re declared the winner of the contest.

January 12th:

Green Energy Oilfield Services has broken ground on a 14,000 square foot corporate headquarters in the Fairfield Industrial Park securing 160 jobs in the greater Fairfield and Freestone County area.

Teague Junior High School 8th grade girls won the consolation bracket in the Teague Tournament held December 15th and 17th. They are Tiffany Renison, Bailey Meggs, Hope Scales, Mikenna Reid, Erin Haley, Lexi Coffman, Olivia Guerrero, and coaches Nickleberry and Thurman.

January 19th:

The Teague High School Boys and Girls Powerlifting Team is making a name for themselves this season. They recently came home with two first place wins for he boys team and 4th and 5th place wins for the girls team after participating in the Mildred Invitational Meet and a meet at Rice between 17 high school teams.

E.E. Wheat Freestone county NAACP held a celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as a ?Meet and Greet? for candidates running for the office in Freestone County.

January 26th:

Little Cori Lynne Grant, born at 3:40 p.m. on January 6,, 2012, has been declared the winner of The Teague Chronicle?s First Baby of 2012 Contest. Cori Lynne was born on James and Avery Grant of Fairfield at Navarro Hospital in Corsicana. Her three year old sister Allison Dean welcomed Cori Lynne home from the hospital.

Melissa Hartley, 2008 graduate of Teague High School, graduated Cum Laude from the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University on December 17, 2011.

February 2:

Teague High School Senior Nick Johnson has been appointed to the West Point Military Academy in New York. Congressman Joe Barton announced the appointment to Nick and his mother Angela Johnson telling them that Nick was his principal nominee, ranking him higher than any other candidate in his Congressional District.
