TEAGUE - The Teague Lady Lions will host the second Lady Lion Varsity Invitational Tournament utilizing the two gyms at the high school complex with play beginning on Thursday, November 29 and concluding on Saturday, December 1.
The tournament will feature a healthy mix of potential playoff teams ranging from Class 1A to Class 3A with eight games scheduled for Thursday and Friday and another 12 games slated for the final day of play on Saturday. Tip-off times for Thursday and Friday are set for 2:00 pm in both gyms while play gets underway at 9:00 am on Saturday.
Schools entered in this year?s tournament and their 2011-12 season records are from Class 1A: Bremond (6-19), Grapeland (n/a), Hubbard (8-18), Leon (21-8), Mart (11-14), Snook (28-10) and Wortham (24-9) while Class 2A is represented by Crockett (n/a), Elkhart (2-16), Franklin (23-12), Grandview (28-4), Palestine Westwood (6-20) and Teague (17-13). Class 3A schools appearing in the tournament are College Station (0-0), Groesbeck (8-21) and West (23-10).
Crockett, Franklin, Grapeland, Leon, Snook, West and Wortham were all playoff teams a year ago in their respective classifications and expect to be in the 2013 post season again this season. College Station is a new school in Class 3A and thus playing their first year of UIL competition.
First action in the tournament at 2:00 pm on Thursday finds Teague going against Elkhart and Wortham vs. Groesbeck followed by West vs. Crockett and Leon vs. College Station with both of the latter games slated for 3:30 pm tip-offs.
Later play on Thursday shows Grandview playing Mart and Snook vs. Grapeland at 5:00 pm with the last two games of the evening featuring Westwood vs. Hubbard and Franklin vs. Bremond at 6:30 pm.
Friday?s play will continue with game times the same as the previous day: 2:00 pm, 3:30 pm, 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm.
Although all of the above schools have been confirmed for the tournament, some of the game times could possibly be changed due to several of the schools still being in the football playoffs.
