2012 THS Homecoming Weekend A Big Success
Teague Homecoming 2012 was a huge success! The time and effort put into planning the events was well worth it thanks to the Ex-Students Association officers, Jessica Corley Shamburger, President; Nikki Cockerham Hullum, Vice President; Terri Fulton Collins, Secretary; and LaDonna Carroll Turner, Treasurer.
All the festivities were kicked off with the annual T.H.S. Bonfire, on Wednesday, October 3rd, held at the lot behind the high school. Hundreds of people attended and THS spirits were high.
Friday, October 5th was a very busy day with the annual Alumni Gold Tournament, held at Big Cedar Country Club; with tee off at 9:30 a.m. Everyone had a great time and even played a few pranks on each other. Winners are: 1st place team: Jackie Dillon, Scott Dillon, Andy Morris, and Brett Dillon. Score: 53. 2nd place team: John Bragg, Brian Bowers, Joe Day Whitaker and Wade Whitaker. Score: 57. 3rd place team: Wayne Scott, Billy Posey, Mike Collins, and Coy McCollum. Score: 57. The golf tournament raised approximately $25,00.00 for scholarships to graduating THS students. Following the golf tournament was Registration at the main entrance of the high school. (registrars were Mary Lee, Glenda Buck, Jane Moore, and Esther Abram)
The Pep Rally for the Friday night football game, Teague vs. Richer, brought the Teague High School spirit to a high point with the cheerleaders, twirlers, flag corp., Teague band, and football players helping to rouse the crowd.
The football game, held at Lion Stadium, had the bleachers overflowing with THS fans rooting for our team. Teague won against Rischer 45-27. A great homecoming game. Following the football game there was a reception at the high school cafeteria (planned by Libby Eppes and Joy Kennedy).
Saturday was a busy day with most classes having meetings and building their floats. The parade took place at 1:00 p.m. The parade had many beautiful floats with the 2012 Parade Theme, ?Patriotic.? Grand Prize went to the Class of 1956; Most Beautiful, Class of 1989; Most Elaborate, Class of 1965; Most Original, Class of 1978; Most Humorous, Class of 1970. The school entries were: Most Original, Class of 2013 and Best Float, Class of 2018.
The 2012 Homecoming Banquet filled the THS cafeteria with alumni from the Class of 1938 to 2011. The dinner was catered by Sam?s Catering consisting of barbecue and chicken fried steak and all the trimmings.
At the Business Meeting, everyone had fun with the crowning of the 2012 Alumni King and Queen, Pete Hullum, Class of 1963, and Carol Albright Brown, Class of 1965. The largest class was the Class of 1959; the oldest person was Edgar Bowers from the Class of 1939; the largest family attending was the James family; and the most distance traveled was Ray Arch Brown coming from Sacramento, California. The Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to Bobby Maggard and Col. Gary G. Allison, USAF, Retired, by Teague Ex-students Association President, Jessica Corley Shamburger. Election of the officers for the 2014 Homecoming were Jessica Corley Shamburger, President; Destiny Black, Vice President; Secretary, Pam Stuver, Secretary; and Sally Gregory, Trreasurer. The 2014 parade theme is ?Texas Traditions.?
Following the Banquet and Business Meeting a ?Mix-n-Mingle was held at Big Cedar Country Club.
