Smokey Joe's Cafe opens tonight
Director George Boyd promises to ?rock Freestone County? this week. From start to finish, come prepared to tap your feet, clap in rhythm or hum along with the ?50s and ?60s rock & roll jukebox musical revue of 39 famous songs by Leiber and Stoller, including ?Hound Dog,? ?Jailhouse Rock,? ?Kansas City,? ?Charlie Brown,? and ?Stand By Me.? It?s a fun, uplifting and feel-good production not to be missed.
This week has been magical for TSAC?s Community Theatre performers. Courtesy of WaterTower Theatre (Addison, TX), professionals (from Actors? Equity Association): Brendan Cyrus, Walter Lee and Akron Watson, of the recent WTT?s Smokey Joe?s Cafe, joined the TSAC local powerhouse cast for rehearsals of the show in which both groups will star. The revue premieres on September 13th at 7:30 pm and September 16th at 2:30 pm at the spectacular Teague High Theatre.
Mr. Cyrus recently performed in Best Little Whorehouse, Rags, and Gypsy. He has worked as principal singer for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for five years.
Mr. Lee studied theatre and dance at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, McMurry University and Dance Discovery Studios. He has appeared in Rent, Parade, Spelling Bee and Ragtime. He has also worked on the hit Fox show, Prison Break.
Mr. Watson has given stellar performances in Ain?t Misbehavin. Akron?s silky voice sounds as if it is gliding as he sings. He has an extensive resume in film, TV and commercials, including principal roles with Friday Night Lights and NBC?s, Chase.
Local performers who have rehearsed many long hours the past two months to present Smokey Joe in Freestone County are: Rachel and Scott Bossier, Katie Berger, Shawn Cheek, Kay Coooper, Diane Jones, Anna Kantor, Ashley Kethley, Lance Kilkenny, Tanya Lee, Patricia Munson, Nathan Rikard and Stan Waldrip as well as Rozanne McKinney and Don Willard who provided hours and hours of playing time during rehearsals and also provided the use of their keyboards.
Musican Director/Conductor is Matthew J. Pool and vocal consultant is Dianne Murden.
The band, Mad Edison features: Justin Cogneato, Mike Donahue and J.C Pringle. Also playing with the band are Carey Kuhl and MIke Makowski. Choreogrpaher is Anne Lucher Hunt.
